The Dresser: Part One

Hello everyone! 

I have been a very busy little bee lately, which is why I haven't been able to post very regularly. I am trying though! I promise! 

Today's DIY is a big one... refinishing a dresser. For my guest room, I am refinishing and upcycling several pieces of furniture. The theme for the room is grey and purple and white, which I think has a very lovely look to it. We have a bright purple focus wall, and a very very light grey on the other three walls. I will keep you up to date on what i do in this room, because i think that this is the biggest DIY project I have done so far. 

But today, I am focusing on the dresser. this is an older dresser that I received from my mom and dad when I was younger. It has seen better days. unfortunately, I abused this lovely dresser when I was younger, carving things into it and spilling stuff onto it. It has been brave, and now it gets a make over. I am painting it white because with that bold purple wall, I don't want anything too loud, and I want a very light and bright feel to the whole room. 

I have sanded down the drawers and repainted all of them. I just repainted the front so far. Because they are dirty and stained and not pleasant to look at on the inside, I am going line the inside a light floral pattered drawer liner, and I will be replacing the knobs on the dressers as well, hopefully with something beautiful and ornate looking. 

These are the pictures of me doing my sanding and my painting. Again, I have only done the front of the drawers for right now. I want to look at other DIYs for refrence to see if other have painted the entire drawer, or left them partially wood. What do you think I should do? 












I am using a Black and Decker Mouse sander with P120 (medium) grit paper on it. I am also using a microfiber roller with Behr primer and paint in one paint in white (literally the color you get when you pick the can off the shelves) in an eggshell, I think. I will let you know when i post the second part of the adventure on Tuesday! These dressers only have two coats of paint on them. In order to cover everything, I will probably need to put on two to three more coats. Then they will sit for a week while i work on the body of the dresser and a few other pieces. I am so excited!

Abs Challenge 30 day Day 24 (3/24/14)

Hey all, 

Sorry for that horribly melodramatic post from the other day. I was a little out of it. But today was a rest day as you probably figured. Nothing exciting except for the fact that i am resting and I could not be happier about it.

Abs Challenge Day 23 (3/23/14)

Can it be over? Please? Please? please? Please. I am at the end of the end of what my body will take. Before this, I was floating on an endorphin covered cloud, amazed at the things my body could accomplish over such a short amount of time. And now, I feel like I am drowning in lactic acid, unable to even lift a finger to help myself accomplish my goals. I heaved and sighed and struggled and even thought about not doing the challenge today. I even whined and cried a little to myself about how exhausted my body and mind and spirit are. There is a lot happening in my life, and I can't describe how I struggled today. But I am making it through day by day. 

So today, I was required by the fitness overlords to do:

Abs 30 Day Challenge Day 20 (3/20/14)

Hello all,

Today was just a rest day. And boy did I rest. i am feeling super proud of myself and very confident. i feel like I am really working my body. Is this giving me 6 pack abs? Maybe under the layer of fat covering my abdomen, but nothing visible yet. Next month is a cardio and a running challenge! Yes! two challenges in one month! Bo am I going to be tired! But I am hoping beyond hope that winter will be terrified by my amazing willpower and determination and flee for fear of getting its butt kicked. A girl can hope.

A new playlist, a new segment, and a new video

Hello all!

So as you all already know, I have started uploading my make up tutorials on YouTube. I love doing this! it is not only easier, but I get better lighting and I am hoping to get more views. I hope you all will go and check out my new video, and give it a thumbs up and a subscription to see new videos every Monday, sometimes Wednesday and Friday. 

This past Monday HelperBaby was horribly sick, to the point I was asking my husband if we needed to take her to the ER. She is perfectly okay now, but I was very worried about her, which is why a video didn't go up on Monday. But that means luck you guys, you get two videos on Wednesday. 

I am going to be splitting my videos into playlists. I have Make up tutorials, casual mondays, fabulous fridays and haul days, which will be posted on Wednesdays if I have a haul to share with you! And there are of course bonus videos throughout the week, if I have time.

Abs Challenge Day 18 *(March 18, 2014)

Hey Guys, 

HelperBaby has been sick for a few days now, and boy am I exhausted. But I keep up with my abs challenge, I am determined! SO here are the past few days of the ab challenge that I needed to keep you up to date one. The next challenge will be better, I promise. 

Day 18:

Phew! I was exhausted after this one! I could not beilive that I had done all thta, but I did it. The last set of sit ups nearly killed me, and the leg raises were pretty easy, even holding a Bichon over my head. But I'm sure I will regret saying that later on down the line. 

I hope you all are being productive with this as much as I am. Enjoy it, and revel in all that you are doing! Only a few more days! Keep going.

A Pamper Evening

Hello everyone! 

As you know, HelperBaby has been very very sick, and the other night I got approximately 2 hours of sleep. Needless to say, I looked like death warmed over the next day. So, I got out all of my spa essentials and decided an evening of pampering myself would do the trick. 

I didn't buy all these items at once, they are things that I have stock piled in my bathroom for about a month. I don't do pamper evenings all the time, but when I do, I want to fee luxuriant and lethargic; this is just what the doctor ordered. 

To start off with..

This, is everything that I use to acheive my pamper evening. 



I start out with brewing a cup of camomile tea for myself. 


Then, I wash my face and drink my tea. 



Next, I do a Biore nose strip to open and clean out my pores. And I read while that sits for 10 minutes. Then, I do a small GlamGlow mask. I already need more, but I still have enough for nose and spot treatments, so this is what I did. That sits for 20 minutes, and in the mean time, I sprayed all the summer shoes I took out of storage with an anti-bacterial, anti-fungal shoe spray to make sure they smell nice when it comes time to wear them all summer. (I can't wait!)




 Then I run my bath, with my Bath bomb, that my best friend, Tia, gave me for Christmas. It smells sweet, but not overpoweringly so and it makes the water smell good and get all fizzy. I loved it I will be buying more bath bombs in the future!

I soaked for about 10 minutes (I'm not a HUGE fan of baths, but my muscles needed the soak) and then I drained the tub and took a shower. I first scrub my lips with my LUSH Bubblegum Lip scrub, then I wash my hair with my Biolage and then scrub my arms (where I have unevenness and redness that I am trying to get rid of) with my LUSH Ocean Salt Scrub. I wash my body with my Nivia Harmony time and that leaves my skin feeling super soft. And I smell like a rose garden. How lovely. Then I wash my face with my Micheal Todd Tropical Enzyme Scrub to get all the dead skin off my face and make sure that all the mask and glue from the Biore strips has been taken off. 

I then Brush my teeth (my tea is finished by now) and I put on my rejuvenating eye pads and my almond oil hair mask. They both smell amazing. They only need 15 minutes, so I fold laundry while I'm waiting. 




























Then I rinse out the hair mask and wash off any residue from the eye pads and towel off. I then spray my hair with my Soy Leave in Conditioner from the sexy hair line. Then I comb my hair and run my AG Keratin repair through my strands and comb those through too. I braid my hair and let those work their magic on my damaged locks. 


I then tone my face with my Pore Refining Toner, just to try and get those pores as tiny as possible after I removed all the junk from them. Next, I massage my Liftactiv Night from Vichy onto my face (this stuff smell so good) and follow up with my Ceramide Youth Restoring from Elizabeth Arden. I then gently pat my Ceramide Lift and Firming Eye Cream from Elizabeth Arden under and around my eyes. And then I put on my normal, everyday deoderant. And I finish my routine off with some Hurraw MoonBalm onto my lips. 




 I then put BioOil on my arms and anywhere I have scars or stretch marks. 

I then go crawl into bed and paint my nails with one of my favorite polishes, Wedding Glitters by Sally Hansen. Two coats does it, and I'm ready to read and then fall asleep, renewed, refreshed, and ready for another day of mothering.  



 












I hope this inspired you to do a little something for yourself this week. As mothers, we are busy and tired and often over worked, and we need a little break ever now and then to balance everything out. I hope you do a little balancing yourself.

A Light and Natural Spring Look

Hello everybody, 

I just posted a brand new Beauty is on the Inside tutorial for you! It is a quick and natural spring time look, perfect for the on the go mom, college kid, or teen. I used BB cream for a very simple and quick coverage and added a lipstick at the end (mostly because am obsessed with how it makes me look and feel) to really five the eye a focal point. Who doesn't want people to stare at their lips while they talk? I hope you enjoy this tutorial and come back on Friday for another one, though it maybe a review or a first impressions video.
